Grotte is a small inland town in the province area of Agrigento.

In 1643 Desiderio di Sanfilippo was appointed Duke of Grotte
Once its economy was based of sulphur mining. Since when the mines have been closed unemployment has compelled many inhabitants to emigrate.
An interesting procession takes place in Grotte every year on Holy Thursday
The Mother Church was founded in 1500 and it’s dedicated to Saint Venera.
