Historical informationEvents

Caltabellotta is an inland town about 45 minutes drive from Agrigento on the way to Sciacca .
There live 4860 inhabitants.
It stands on top of a mountain and from there you can enjoy a great view. Because of its strategic and naturally fortified position, the area has been inhabited since prehistory.
During the Roman time the slaves controlled the town for a while in the 2nd century B.C. At that time the name of the town was Triocala. The Normans reconstructed the local castle where later on in 1302 the French king Charles d’Anjou and the Spanish king Frederick 3rd Aragona signed a famous peace treaty known as Caltabellotta Peace Treaty
The present economy is based mainly on agriculture and dairy products.
The most famous agricultural local products are olives and olive oil. Also the local honey is very appreciated.
